IT MAY BE SMALL BUT IT IS ONE OF TANZANIA’S MOST SPLENDIDLY DIVERSE NATIONAL PARKS. THE STRIKING VEGETATION CHANGES ALONG WITH THE SCENERY WHICH INCLUDES BARREN LANDS, A FOREST WITH ANCIENT TREES AND A SHALLOW LAKE SITTING AT THE FOOT OF THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY ESCARPMENT. NOT TO MENTION ALGAE-STREAKED HOT SPRINGS, BAOBAB STREWN CLIFFS, BUSH PLAINS AND GROUND-WATER FORESTS.

Lake Manyara attracts 400 species of birds, 300 of which are migratory. During the wet season, bright pink flamingos, fascinating pelicans, regal eagles and radiant kingfishers thrive in its alkaline waters; a spectacle prized by birders. Herbivores roam around the lake shores and forested valley slopes in large herds. There are also plenty of leopards in the area yet, along with the tree-climbing lions, they are tricky to find. In addition, the area is known for its olive baboons which share the park with other interesting creatures such as the Cape clawless otter, Egyptian mongoose, Sykes monkey and short-eared galago.
