BACKGROUND

JOHAN SCHWARTZ WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF STELLENBOSCH
– THE BIRTHPLACE OF PINOTAGE AND A DESTINATION SYNONYMOUS WITH EXCEPTIONAL WINES.

QUALIFICATIONS

Johan Schwartz obtained an MBA in 2007 from the University of Stellenbosch where he received the USB merit award for the best marketing student. He was also a part-time lecturer at the university’s Business School, presenting elective courses to MBA students in Strategic Social Media Marketing.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Before obtaining his MBA, Johan was a commodity broker and futures and options trader. Apart from promoting the South African wine industry, he still actively consults clients on currency hedging and currency risk management aspects.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

AS A MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE PINOTAGE ASSOCIATION,
JOHAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETING ASPECTS
OF PINOTAGE WINES. HE THEREFORE WORKS VIGOROUSLY TO PROMOTE PINOTAGE
AND MANAGE CONSUMER PERCEPTIONS ON A LOCAL AND GLOBAL STAGE.

AS A MEMBER OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF THE PINOTAGE ASSOCIATION, JOHAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETING ASPECTS OF PINOTAGE WINES. HE THEREFORE WORKS VIGOROUSLY TO PROMOTE PINOTAGE AND MANAGE CONSUMER PERCEPTIONS ON A LOCAL AND GLOBAL STAGE.

Johan has actively been part of formulating marketing strategies for more than 50 South African wine brands in the past 14 years and has worked on key projects involving the main SA wine competitions and wine auctions. In addition, he manages key business relationships with Pinotage stakeholders including producers, retailers, wine institutions and distributors. Furthermore, Johan presents wine tastings and wine events for international guests as well as Absa corporate events (the association’s key sponsor).

ABOUT THE PINOTAGE
WALL…

Johan is the proud creator of the Pinotage Wall, a 60-metre wall at the international arrivals section of the Cape Town International airport. Every year from August to October, this wall welcomes visitors to Pinotage Country and invites them to taste a glass or two of our uniquely South African red wine.

INTERESTS

A stern Stormers supporter, with a love for the Western Cape and its agriculture sector, Johan is also passionate about working on export projects for fruit and other export producers and getting involved in wine tourism to promote our lovely part of the world.
