May to September is safari season. During August and September the land is particularly dry, causing animals to frequent scarce water sources which makes for excellent viewing. Early morning and late afternoon drives in open vehicles can get very cold in the winter months (June to August).

Cape Town on the other hand has wet winters. Most parks can be found in summer rainfall regions.
