A REMOTE AND LARGELY UNEXPLORED WILDLIFE SANCTUARY DOMINATES AN ENORMOUS AREA IN CENTRAL ZAMBIA. ITS NAME IS KAFUE NATIONAL PARK, THE COUNTRY’S LARGEST AND OLDEST PARK. HERE YOU WILL FIND MORE SPECIES OF UNGULATE, THAT IS HOOFED MAMMALS, THAN IN ANY OTHER NATIONAL PARK SOUTH OF THE CONGO BASIN.

The park is also a hotbed of prey. Together, the two naturally promote prey encounters. The enormous wilderness lends itself to a plethora of habitats including sweeping floodplains.

Elusive, rare antelope such as the blue duiker and yellow-backed duiker hide in the thickets; hartebeest, roan and sable prefer the miombo woodlands; and lechwe as well as sitatunga shy away in the swamps. With more than 500 species of birds present in the area, it also deserves the title of a birder’s paradise. Wildlife sightings are excellent year-round in the south of Kafue National Park where diversity and action reign. Between June and November, charismatic predators follow the vast herds of antelope and buffalo making their way to the wetland paradise that is Busanga Plains in the north. Overall, the variety of game is astonishing and a pleasure to behold in this quieter park.
