WHAT IS A PANGOLIN?
Pangolins, known by some as scaly anteaters, are strange-looking creatures wrapped in protective horny scales that overlap. They are notoriously shy and elusive little animals.
According to estimates, the African pangolin has been around for 40 million+ years, adapting itself to changing environments to survive. Of the eight different species in the world, four are found in Asia and four in Africa. It is now the most trafficked mammal in the world.
WHAT
PANGOLIN.AFRICA DOES
Through their three-pronged approach of Publicity, Participation and Protection they are working with partners in the tourism, conservation and corporate fields to (a) increase education and awareness around all four African pangolin species (b) contribute towards much-needed research and (c) implement protection and rehabilitation projects on the ground. They also play an integral role in bringing together and supporting other individuals and organisations across Africa who are working in the pangolin conservation space.

SOME OF
THE CHALLENGES
It is very difficult to protect a species when you do not have enough data on its numbers or even whereabouts. Since pangolins are such secretive animals, only bits of data and stories of sightings have been gathered.
TEAM PANGOLIN
Pangolin.Africa can use the help of bloggers, companies, conference centres, hotel or lodge owners, influencers, interested individuals, teachers, travel professionals – or anyone in between.
RECORD
SIGHTINGS
Every bit of data matters. If you have ever spotted a pangolin in the wild, no matter how long ago, you need to record your sighting.
DONATE
There are a number of different ways you can donate to support the protection of the species.
PANGOLERT
CORPORATE GIVING
Pangolin.Africa offers tax rebate benefits to individuals and companies in SA, the UK and the USA.

‘CONSERVATIONISTS ESTIMATE THAT ONE PANGOLIN IS
POACHED FROM THE WILD EVERY FIVE MINUTES DUE
TO THE HUGE DEMAND FROM THE AFRICAN AND ASIAN
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE MARKETS.’
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH
THE PANGOLIN FILM
EYE OF THE PANGOLIN IS A POWERFUL FILM THAT WAS PRODUCED
TO TELL THE WORLD ABOUT THE CRITICAL SITUATION FACING THE AFRICAN PANGOLIN.
THE FILM WAS BROUGHT TO LIFE BY PANGOLIN PHOTO SAFARIS, BIGGEST LEAF TRAVEL
AND AWARD-WINNING SOUTH AFRICAN FILMMAKERS BRUCE YOUNG AND JOHAN VERMEULEN.

It is the story of two men on a mission to get all four African pangolin
species on camera for the first time. While travelling the continent to learn
more about those who care for and study pangolins, they are captivated by
these strange, secretive creatures as they document the race to save them
from being poached to extinction.
‘IF PEOPLE WHO WATCH OUR FILM BECOME AS
ENCHANTED BY THESE LITTLE CREATURES AS WE HAVE
BEEN, MAYBE THEY WILL BEGIN TO LOOK AROUND THEM
AT OTHER CREATURES IN THE WILD AND REASSESS THEIR
RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT PART OF OUR WORLD THAT IS
SO INCREDIBLY THREATENED. IF THEY ASK THEMSELVES
WHAT THEY MIGHT LOSE IF WE LOSE THE PANGOLIN,
THEN WE WILL HAVE BEGUN TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL
WITH THIS FILM. IF THEY BEGIN TO QUESTION WHAT IT
WILL MEAN TO LIVE IN A WORLD WITH FEWER AND
FEWER WILD PLACES FOR WILD CREATURES, THEN THEY
WILL HAVE BEGUN TO SEE WITH THEIR HEARTS.’
