However, the ownership rests with a Community Trust, SACOLA, which uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park. Guest cottages and the main lodge building are ecologically respectful and stylishly appointed. The lodge is the perfect base from which to explore this unique and fascinating part of Africa, where you can trek on foot to see the magnificent mountain gorilla, a wildlife experience of a lifetime. Trekking to see the golden monkeys is another highlight of Volcanoes National Park. Other adventures include, escorted bird watching walks, cultural walks to neighbouring villages, a hike to the ruins of Dian Fossey’s Research Camp and a visit to a daily market in Musanze Town. Having been in operation for 10 years, the lodge prides itself on having had a positive impact in uplifting the lives of its community neighbours.
