BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK, A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE, IS PART OF THE ANCIENT, BIODIVERSE FOREST IT DERIVES ITS NAME FROM. THE FOREST IS AN ENCHANTING ECOSYSTEM DEEP IN THE HEART OF CENTRAL AFRICA THAT OCCUPIES A SMALL CORNER OF SOUTHWESTERN UGANDA

The word impenetrable is fitting for this mountainous place which is both intimidating and alluring; a challenge to explore with wonderful scenes as reward. The most significant of course is encountering a mountain gorilla, of which the rainforest protects an estimated 400, about half of the world’s remaining population. It is also a famous birders’ paradise. Naturalist guides and trackers accompany those who wish to go gorilla trekking in this remote part of the country. Nine other primate species, amongst a plethora of indigenous wildlife, birdlife, flowering plants, trees, ferns and butterflies call this forest home.
