MANY CULTURAL EXCURSIONS IN CAPE TOWN HAVE EVOLVED TO PROVIDE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND AWARENESS OF OUR COMPLEX RECENT HISTORY.

A trip down heritage lane can take you anywhere from Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned to a colourful township where the air is full of energy and song. The Bo-Kaap on the slopes of Signal Hill is synonymous with brightly coloured houses, cobblestone streets and traditional Cape Malay curries.

You may hear the call to prayer from historic mosques while you learn how to make samosas. District Six is a former inner-city residential area with a sad history that housed a lively, although impoverished community with a rich cultural life.  Its inhabitants were forcibly removed during the 1970s by the apartheid regime. Today the District Six Museum honours former residents while guided tours highlight places of significance and provide more insights.
