THE CAPTIVATING FISH RIVER CANYON IN THE SOUTH OF NAMIBIA IS NO ORDINARY GORGE. IT IS THE LARGEST CANYON IN AFRICA AS WELL AS THE SECOND LARGEST IN THE WORLD. THIS EXPANSIVE AND ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING RAVINE FALLS WITHIN THE AIS-AIS RICHTERSVELD TRANSFRONTIER PARK.
Stretching across 160 kilometres, it was formed when a valley floor collapsed millions of years ago. Half a kilometre below the flat, arid plateau, the winding pink, purple and grey streaks painted by erosion from the Fish River is mesmerising and deserving of photographers’ attention. The main hiking trail is one of the most well-known in southern Africa. For the brave, sleeping on the edge of the canyon is an option as well.
