This exclusive, sophisticated desert camp is located in a remote and wild environment close to the Skeleton Coast National Park, in the northern sector of the private Palmwag Concession in Kaokoveld. In this vast emptiness that feels more like a distant planet, the area is a mosaic of sculpted mountains, sand dunes, and huge expanses of desert, interspersed with unique wildlife, curious thousand-year-old welwitschia plants, and the nomadic Himba settlements.

The tents harmonise with the rugged surroundings and the rich ochre colours and textures reflect the beauty of the Hoanib while the geometric patterns are inspired by the Himba people. Materials are sourced locally and furnishings are shaped by the local Rundu carpenters and Himba carvers. True to the ethos of eco consciousness, Hoanib Camp leaves the lightest footprint and is entirely solar powered.

Guides and rangers lead trips in search of wildlife along the river bed and down to the Oasis and onto the dramatic coastal dunes to see the seal colony and the eerie shipwrecks. Day safaris are spent tracking endangered rhino, desert-adapted elephant, desert lion and of course desert-adapted giraffe. The camp is proud to be a joint venture between the local communities and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, the world’s only Africa-wide giraffe conservation organisation
